Consumed: Where the Women's, Gay, and Animal Liberation Movements Intersect

Date of event:10th Sep 2008
Location of the event:in the 6 E. 16th St. lobby of The New School
Event starts at:8:00 pm

Marisa Miller Wolfson and Jasmin Singer (Farm Sanctuary) will lead a lively (and at times funny--we promise!) discussion about the interlocking forms of oppression between animal rights, women’s rights, and gay rights—and how you can change the world simply by changing what (and whom) you consume. This enlightening workshop is perfect for you if you are: • A feminist with a cheeseburger addiction • A vegan activist who thinks LGBT stands for lettuce grain-burger with tomato • Curious (or skeptical) about veganism • Skeptical (or curious) about lesbianism. As always with our workshops, if you have a catcher’s mitt, bring it. Prizes will be flung. Special guest speakers include: Yetta Kurland, a gay rights lawyer who is running for City Council. See www.yettakurland.com. Camden McDaris, author of "Legal Protection Only for Those Most Like 'Us,'" published in Michigan State University's Journal of Animal Law
